In February, 2005, a small group of people met to discuss plans to fight against a proposed Wal-Mart in Cedar Mill.
From those humble beginnings, an amazing grass-roots organization developed. Through emails, donations, and protests, Save Cedar Mill grew to thousands of members, all of whom shared a common goal: a well-planned, friendly community that balanced commercial needs with livability.
The group's first achievement was an appeal to the Beaverton City Council, which denied the Wal-Mart application in summer, 2006. Since then, Save Cedar Mill has continued to spearhead the dialog as to what the community would like to see developed at the Barnes Road/Cedar Hills Boulevard site.
As the City of Beaverton continues to annex property in our neighborhood, Save Cedar Mill is urging them to master plan the whole region, not focus on myopically planning development one site at a time. That leads to sprawl, pedestrian-unfriendly development, and communities that lack character and appeal. Our group will continue to promote the idea that good planning is the key to a successful community.
Save Cedar Mill will continue to give voice to the community's dreams and aspirations. If you'd like to help financially, please consider making a donation to the group. Thank you for your support of Save Cedar Mill, a local voice for Beverton, Cedar Hills, and beyond.
